The Adult Forum Committee, in conjunction with the Board of Deacons, has chosen “Reclaiming Jesus” as an all church study for Lent. This 2018 document challenges us to bring our core religious values to our national discourse, touching on issues like the rise of racism, misogyny, and dishonesty in our nation’s politics. Of course, we’ll put our own Hope spin on the Sunday morning sessions. Gary will look specifically at the United Church of Christ history around these issues, such as General Synod resolutions in support of gender and racial equality, during Monday School sessions. Our youth will also be turning to some of these questions during Lent. The Lenten schedule of topics and presenters is: March 1 Moi Zahler - Lesson 3: Made in God's Image and Likeness (racial bigotry) March 8 Ann Quale - Lesson 4: We are One Body (misogyny, sexual harassment, assault) March 15 Donna Vincent & Paul Klapatch - Lesson 5: To Protect and Seek Justice (the vulnerable and oppressed) March 22 Karen Brunstrom - Lesson 6: Truth is Morally Central to our Personal & Public Lives (truth is morally central to personal and public lives) March 29 Shirley Senarighi - Lesson 8 & 9: Change the World Through the Life & Love of Jesus (love) April 5 Olive Schott - Lesson 7: Christ's Way of Leadership in Servanthood (leadership is servanthood not domination) The original “Reclaiming Jesus” document, a statement crafted and released by an ecumenical group of Christian leaders, can be found at reclaimingjesus.org
