Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost
PRELUDE
WELCOME and GREETING
INTROIT
CALL TO WORSHIP – from “The Fellowship of the Ring” by J.R.R. Tolkien
One: The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began,
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow if I can,
All: Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
HYMN #457 As We Gather at Your Table (vv. 1-2)
As we gather at your table,
as we listen to your word,
help us know, O God, your presence;
let our hearts and minds be stirred.
Nourish us with sacred story
till we claim it as our own;
teach us through this holy banquet
how to make Love’s victory known.
Turn our worship into witness
in the sacrament of life;
send us forth to love and serve you,
bringing peace where there is strife.
Give us, Christ, your great compassion
to forgive as your forgave;
may we still behold your image
in the world you died to save.+

HYMN #468 Let Us Talents and Tongues Employ (vv. 1 & 3)
Let us talents and tongues employ,
reaching out with a shout of joy:
bread is broken, the wine is poured,
Christ is spoken and seen and heard.
Jesus lives again, earth can breathe again,
pass the Word around: loaves abound!
Jesus lives again, earth can breathe again,
pass the Word around: loaves abound!
Jesus calls us in, sends us out,
bearing fruit in a world of doubt,
gives us love to tell, bread to share:
God (Immanuel) everywhere!
Jesus lives again, earth can breathe again,
pass the Word around: loaves abound!
Jesus lives again, earth can breathe again,
pass the Word around: loaves abound!+
GENEROSITY MOMENT
JOYS AND CONCERNS/PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts
as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING – Unison
Rabbi Jesus, we thank you for this rite of remembrance,
this simple ritual, loaf and cup and prayer,
something we can do together,
and something we can do at home,
each household, each person
following your Way,
remembering you.
Bless us, just as you blessed that meal,
were a blessing to those gathered.
Amen.
