It is true, the celebration of Christmas is upon us and there is something magical about it. On the Eve of Christmas the music, thoughts, and dreams come together. The children’s excitement begins to build to its crescendo and there is, for most of us, a kind of magic in the air that makes anything possible.
Anything is possible.
We need not wait for a holiday to make it special. We need not have sugar plums dancing and sleigh bells ringing to be able to bring cheer to others. In fact we should not wait for that. We should be busy all year making something a little brighter, making life a little better, making love come alive for those we meet on the journey.
Anything is possible.
In our home we were a little more intentional this year about making life a little more festive in preparation for the Christmas holidays. We planned parties to gather people around and worked hard to welcome people into our home. We love opening our home and welcoming people in, it brings the place alive. But the point is we recognized the need to be intentional. That is the way for many things. One has to be intentional.
If so, then anything really is possible.
This Christmas, as we celebrate the light that chases the darkness out of the world in our Christian heritage, an enlightening that has changed world history, I want to invite all of us to be more intentional about enlarging the community of the faithful of which we are all a part. The teachings of Jesus have changed the world but there are immense changes that still need to take place.
Anything is possible.
As Christians we do not have a lock on the truth. Attitudes must change only then will peace be possible. Only when religions of the world choose to respect one another and the journeys we are all on will peace begin to take shape. Now, as people have faith who share a progressive view, we can make a difference by helping to change the attitudes of people. We can move people to think differently about Christianity and the world in which we live.
Anything is possible.
Share with another person your feelings that Christianity respects other paths to the Sacred and we begin to tear down the walls that divide.
Make this Christmas be a new beginning.
Anything is possible.
